Lettuce

I hate buying lettuce. It never gets eaten in time and it always ends up in a mushy pile in the bag that is was purchased in. But I have recently discovered a new trick to keeping it fresh so it isn't a cause to make me go to Smith's and spend $45, when all I needed was lettuce. I usually buy romaine, but it works with others as well. First: cut the end off, and the tips off. (they are usually already a little soft for my taste) Take off all the big huge pieces that you don't like. Second: wash the lettuce and shake it off, don't dry too much. Third: wrap the lettuce in enough paper towel to go around 2 times (the idea is that the paper towel is a little wet) and put it in a gallon size Ziploc bag in the fridge. This has gotten lettuce to usually lasts me a 2-3 weeks and it is crunchy and fresh every time.

While I was enjoying my time at the computer giving all of my friends and loved ones a piece of my wisdom, my darling little boy Milo, drew me a picture. Lots of pictures. One on the door of the fridge, one on the ironing board, one on the wall in the kitchen, and one on the wall in the stairway. Isn't that sweet of him. And the best part of it all is that he used a hot pink marker. Lucky me!!! At least those are parts of the house that haven't been painted yet. Luckily I am in a daze caused by the upcoming birth of my second "soon to be" toddler, and I kindly wiped the pictures off of the walls. Followed by a reminder that if he wants to "drew" me some pictures then he needs to use paper. Good thing I bought some miracle cleaner from a southern door to door salesman this summer....On second thought, maybe the lettuce trick doesn't save me money after all, since I had to spend $40 on a bottle of cleaner to clean up a mess, that was caused by my excitement over lettuce.

I am sorry for your newest artwork! Be careful with the magic cleaners, My daughter got hives from just touching the area I cleaned, she was/is still an artist on my walls, desk, cedar chest, table you name it she has left her mark. I love reading your posts it makes me feel so happy that I am not the only one that has someone that tries my patients:) ( annie Elkington sister)

I'm going to have to try that. I actually always rinse it and put it into a groccery bag and tie the handles in a knot. That seems to do the trick for me, but maybe yours will keep it even longer. I'm impressed you kept your cool. I was such a grouch at 8 1/2 months I think I would have called Jeff and use the line from Notting Hill, "Martin, your customer!!" aka "get your butt home before I open a can on this kid." Just kidding, we still gotta love them don't we. I can especially say that because they are in bed and they are little angels when they sleep.

I have the same issues with lettuce. Thanks for the tip can't wait to try it. As for the drawings....don't worry things will get MUCH better once Milo has a brother to blame his drawings on. I drew on my mom's walls when i was about 5 and then signed my 2 year old brothers name next to my art work. :)

You'd think we were related. Bryton took a hot pink highlighter to a pair of levis last week. She may be the next big designer who know's what would be a good name for her clothing line? Oh wait, I know CC short for Coltharp Catostrophe (unsure of spelling)but i'm brilliant

Hey, Babe - I'm begging you to blog something else now. For some reason lettuce makes me quite queasy with this pregnancy. I know, just don't read your site - but I've got to land on you at least twice a day to see what you have to say. I must be addicted.
